jannz 205 day update
Modified By jannz on 9/20/2008 2:12:49 PM)

Hi Everybody,

OK -- just got my labs tests results back after 5+wks.  (See my lab link below)

Changes in my regimen since last test:

  • added 5mcg of T3 (Cytomel)
  • increased my niacin.  I was taking 250mg a couple of times a week.  This time I took it 4-5 times a week.
  • started taking 200mcg of selenium daily
  • started taking 2mg of melatonin at night

My cholesterol has dropped down to 184 -- which is good, however, my LDL is still higher than I would like at 109 -- I'd like it below 100.   My HDL is pretty high...but it's been higher...so not sure what's going on with that.  (? probably my fish oil -- I hadn't been as consistent with my supplements this summer...and fish oil suffered the most.   I had been taking 6grams daily and just started that up again so we'll see if there's a difference with the next test.).

My TPO antibodies also dropped  which I'm thrilled about.   This could be a result of my adding more selenium to my regimen and/or the LDN..??

In general this last testing period I've just felt better.  Whether it's due to adding the little amount of T3...my antibodies dropping... or my sleep being so much better...dunno...???

My next step is to add some T4 back into my regimen.  I plan on adding .037mg -- which is about half of what I was taking when I was on THR back in January of this year.   I think I'm going to take it at night - which will be a change for me....used to take it in the morning -- so we'll see how that goes.   My FT4 level is too low so hopefully this will boost it up some.

I'm taking adding the amount of THR back into my regimen REALLY low intentionally.   As my antibodies drop I don't want to have too much thyroid hormone in my system and have that scary hyper feeling again like the first time I tried LDN with my full dose THR.

Re: jannz 205 day update

Hi Jann,

I always marvel at your detailed and careful supplement regimen as well as LDN regimen. Clearly something is working for you as your TPOAb and cholesterol levels drop. I think your cholesterol levels will drop even more by the addition, if but a crumb, of T4 and T3. I think your frugality and caution in the use of drugs, supplements, replacement, etc. will serve you well over the long haul. Good job. BTW, I do not sleep well at all when my FT3 is too low, so for me, it's a certainty that I will sleep better when my T hormone is not sputtering. How do you like the melatonin? - Valerie

Re: jannz 205 day update

Hi Val,

RE"  How do I like the melatonin?"

I have been sleeping MUCH more soundly...and if I do wake up, it might be around 4-5am...instead of the 1-3am that I was doing.   So I'm getting a solid 5-6hrs of consectutive sleep.

Before when I woke up at the 1-3am, I'd have a hard time getting back to sleep.  If I wake up at the 4-5am...I may get up for an hour or two...but then go back to bed and sleep until around 8-9am...which is really later than I want...but it sure does FEEL good.

I read in one of the adrenal books that sleeping from 7-9am was the best time to restore your adrenals so I figure my sleeping in is 'good therapy'.

So...I'll continue to take my melatonin on the assumption that it's why I'm sleeping so much better now.

Re: jannz 205 day update

Hi Jann,

Been comparing your lab results from last month great that the TPO has gone down from 352 to now 162.

I do think you TSH of 5.756 is still too high and your FT4 a little on the low side at 0.94 (0.61-1.76)

I think you have the right idea about adding a little T4 to the mix of cytomel.

0.37 mg souns like a good start I take mine at night and have had no problems with it.

Your doing really well love your chart too.
