Re: ldn focusing problems(eyes)

I agree with Jann that the simplest way to find out is to simply stop taking the LDN to see if it fixes the situation. Whether she then returns to taking LDN or not, she would at least know what the basis is for the eye issues -- or at least eliminate what it isn't. As for thyroid eye disease (associated with Graves' disease), it's true that when thyroid hormone levels are either too high or low to one's set points, there is more eye disturbance, and that is more pronounced when in the hot phase of the eye disease.

Re: ldn focusing problems(eyes)

Ah... I see,...the LDN is needed because the hepatitis is still an issue..??

Well...before you make any changes to the thyroid medications, I would get her levels tested.

I'm sorry I haven't been much help.   I hope she gets to feel better and that her eye issue resolves.

Best wishes,

Jann

yesteday i visited a doctor in belgium who wrote ldn for an hepatits patient who was terminal.the patient recovered and is back at work.she uses 50 naltrexone in distllied water.she uses only 2.5 mg.she developed problems with focusing (eyes).is there someone who has this experince.i do not know all the details but there might be thyroid medication there.another patient of her had to stop alltogether  ldn because of focusing (eyes) problem. might be also thyroid medication as she is an expert in thyroid.

If these patients have Graves Disease and concurrent thyroid  Opthalmopathy, it is not at all unusual  for the focal points of the eyes to change. Thyroid  Eye Disease (TED) causes the eyes to protrude from their  sockets during the active phase of  the disease. The eye protrusion is  caused by autoantibodies, just  like autoimmune thyroid disease is.  If naltrexone actually reduces or  helps with the  production of autoantibodies.....and your friends also have  thyroid  disease or TED, the 2 (or actually 3) issues might not even be related.

I have thyroid eye disease, it started about 7 years ago and has greatly  improved with time and stable thyroid levels. During that time  I have donated 3 pairs of  eyeglasses to Lions Club (A charitable organization) because my focusing and vision prescription kept changing.  I have had  the current prescription for 3 years, so (fingers crossed) my eyesight has finally settled down, and it has nothing to do with naltrexone. :-)

Re: ldn focusing problems(eyes)

Patti,

So true -- anyone with TED is going to go through visual acuity changes as their eyes worsen or get better. Most of us with TED recall diplopia (double vision) and lack of visual clarity (fuzziness) and horrific pain. Like you, as my eyes improved, that is, as I shifted into the cold phase of TED, my vision changed with it. I never did get new glasses while in the hot phase -- it was like chasing a moving target. Last year I finally was able to get new glasses and feel for the first time in many years that the RX would endure.

Anyway, if LDN has any impact on antibody activity (or fibrosis?) affecting extraocular muscles, then it seems logical that it could impact visual acuity.
