Welcome to AHSTA.com!
Welcome to Alternative Health Solutions for Thyroid Autoimmunity — AHSTA. This site is dedicated to exploring health solutions for Graves' and Hashimoto's thyroid disease, investigating alternatives like low-dose Naltrexone and other therapies not in the mainstream to help mitigate the autoimmune aspects of these diseases. AHSTA.com is an interactive feature-rich space designed to bring together thyroid disease sufferers to discuss therapies for which there is often little data, even fewer studies, but an ample number of inquirers. It is the path less trodden to help our thyroid disease members improve their lives with the hope that someday there will be a permanent cure.
The word "alternative" means not only therapies, treatments and protocols that may not necessarily be the most common approaches to thyroid autoimmunity, such as herbs like Bugleweed or Rehmannie or antioxidant supplementation, but also includes new scientific research and new therapies springing from traditional sources, such as research on low-dose naltrexone coming out of Stanford and Penn State, or on novel RA-IgG/fibroblast interaction to help identify therapeutic targets from UCLA, and all the other ongoing research into how autoimmunity works and what responsible new treatment options are possible for patients in the future. Therefore, AHSTA honors the science of disease and the effectiveness of any and all treatments -- with an overall compassionate interest in health solutions to help thyroid autoimmune patients.
This site is not intended to cover topic areas across all autoimmune diseases and is narrowed to thyroid autoimmunity, including thyroid eye disease and secondary conditions. There are some therapies listed here that are applicable across multiple diseases, but we will not cover those except to indicate promising studies that might be applicable to thyroid autoimmunity, if but theoretically. Also, this site does not ignore or discount traditional therapies such as antithyroid drugs or thyroidectomy, which have helped millions, but rather makes an inquiry into other treatments that might be useful to those who suffer from the autoimmune aspects of Graves' and Hashimoto's disease. There is an ample amount of material on the Web well beyond what we can be provide here for topics in traditional applications and we will try to provide links to them in our resource pages.
AHSTA's mission is to help thyroid disease sufferers improve their health by providing them with a host of resources as well as interactive cafés, such as forums, blogging and chat, vehicles through which they can share their experiences with others. These interactive features are available to registered users only. We also will have contributing writers to cover important topics.
